F.A.Q.

Confused about how to post a blog or embed a video? Check out the answers to some of your basic questions below...and if they don't help, email kat[at]girlsactionfoundation[dot]ca for answers.

How to write your profile

  • Go to the 'My account' link in the menu box on the far right
  • Click the 'Edit' tab, then the 'Profile' tab
  • In the 'Language' drop-down menu, choose 'Any'.
  • Choose a title for your profile
  • In the first text box (which you might have to enlarge by dragging on the bottom right corner), enter a few words that describe you
  • In the second text box, tell us about yourself! What kind of activism interests you? What's your favourite TV show?
  • If you want to embed a video from Youtube or Google or wherever, there's a spot here to copy and paste a code.
  • Click 'Submit'! You can see what it looks like by clicking on the 'My profile page' link under your name in the far right bar.

How to join a group

  • In the 'Groups' box in the middle bar, click the name of the group you want to look at or join.
  • At the bottom of the page, click on the 'Register for this Group' button.
  • If you want you can enter a couple of lines to say why you want to join this group - or you can just click 'Subscribe'.
  • An administrator will approve you, and that's it!

How to put up a blog

  • In the menu box under your username on the far right, click on the 'My blog' link.
  • Click on the 'Post new blog entry' link at the very top of the page
  • Choose 'Any' from the drop-down language menu
  • Enter a title for your post - this is mandatory, but you can call it 'untitled' if you want!
  • Pick some topics (also known as tags) - these allow people who are looking for blogs about a particular topic to find your post - you can pick several by holding down on the Ctrl key if you're using a PC, or the apple key if you're using a Mac.
  • In the box for the 'Body', enter whatever you want to write about. You can do this with rich text enabled or disabled - 'rich text enabled' means you can click the bold button instead of using html to make something bold. If you would rather write with rich text disabled and write your own html, then you should go to 'Input format' and select "Full HTML".

How to create a link

  • With rich text enabled, highlight the text you want to turn into a link with your mouse. Once you've highlighted it, a little picture of a link (like a link in a chain) is activated at the bottom of the text box - click on this, enter the URL that you want the link to point to, and then click 'Insert'.

How to insert an image

  • Click on the 'Attached Images' link. You can then either choose a photo that's already on the website by clicking on the drop-list under "Existing Image", or by uploading one from your own computer - you might have to scroll over to see the 'Browse' button, but it's there!

How to embed video

  • After you've done whatever else you want to do to your text, set the input format to 'Full HTML', and paste the embedding code for your video - usually found right beside the video in Youtube.

More blog features

  • You can post your blog to group pages by clicking on the box beside a group's name
