Intersectionality... My Definition by Hawa Mire
What is Intersectionality? How does it work? How does it apply to my life?
Hawa is involved with the group GoGirl in BC.
Intersectionality & Feminism by Anna Carasthathis
I’m going to explain what “intersectionality” means, where it comes from, and how it is used to make feminism a movement that speaks for all of us, not just women with privilege who are able to hijack feminism for their own particular interests.
Anna teaches feminist political theory at McGill and Concordia.
On
Choosing Me by Keetha Mercer
I reject this form of identifying myself because I see it as part of
the same policies that tell us that we are have nothing in common with
those who identify differently. Just because I identify as a feminist,
does that mean that I am naturally at odds with women who don't? With
men? No, of course not!
Keetha works at POWER Camp National/Filles d'action.
Policy & Intersectionality by Hawa Mire
If policies were made so that they were more general and each
encompassed different realities we would hit a more general audience.
Hawa's a long-time member of Kickaction.ca

A video directed by Karen Lum, adapted from the poem "Slip of the Tongue" written and performed by Adriel Luis.

Aqsa Parvez by Thea Lim
How do we recognise without a single disclaimer, how terrible and
angering it is that Parvez is dead, and that women everywhere face this
kind of violence from their closest family members in their daily
lives; without falling into the easy racist traps that feminism has
fallen into so many times before?
Thea is the web editor of Shameless magazine.
Adeline travaille à POWER Camp National/Filles d'action.
Thinking About Violence Against Girls and Young Women, Envisioning Change (And Being a Skilled Fish) by Candis Steenbergen
Part of the problem is that systemic violence is hard to see. It becomes fused within the language and structures of our social systems, our public bodies and policies, in corporate agendas, in schooling and health care institutions and in workplaces. Systemic violence may not necessarily be intentional, but it does work with remarkable effectiveness to legitimate racist, sexist, classist, ableist, ageist, homophobic and transphobic beliefs, rendering them virtually invisible.
Candis teaches Women's Studies at Concordia. She's also busy writing her doctoral thesis.
Partie 1 | Partie 2 | Partie 3 | Partie 4

Violence in Jamaica by Loralie Bromby
I turned to my friend, who is a Jamaican male, and I said, "What should
we do? Can we call the police? Can we protect her?” He turned back to
the situation and said nothing.
Loralie works at POWER Camp National/Filles d'action.

Sexual Health Means Freedom from Sexual Violence by Stacey May Fowles
If a woman cannot (or is not allowed to) talk positively about her
body, how can she be expected to articulate or report when she feels
that someone has disrespected or harmed it?
Stacey May works at Shameless mag.
Sexual Health and Confidence – A Life Lesson in 2 Parts by Kathleen K-R
1) Your sexual education is never over, no matter how old you get; and 2)Your sexual health and safety is strongly connected to your
confidence, and sex ed. must deal with this for it to be effective. To
illustrate my points, here are two stories taken from my own life
experiences.
Kathleen works with a Montreal youth rights organisation called Head and Hands.
What Is Sexual Health Research Saying About Girls? by Carina Foran
What’s really interesting is comparing the research on girls' sexual
health with the resources (informative web sites, pamphlets, manuals,
etc.) that exist. It appears that the resources on sexual health are
far more progressive and complete that the research.
Carina is in her last year in Women's Studies at Concordia.
The Time is Now... actually the time is always! by Loralie Bromby
When I was in high school (about 10 years ago), there was Sex.Ed. But,
it was very basic and didn't offer much support or info regarding
STD's, HIV, self-esteem, aboortion etc. It was a very basic overview of
the female reproductive system and the menstrual cycle.
Loralie works at POWER Camp National/Filles d'action.

Bringing Sex Ed Back to Montreal High Schools by Samer Elatrash
Two years ago, Head and Hands launched Sense, a pilot project in several private schools in Montreal in response to the reform. The group offers workshops provided by trained facilitators on sexually transmitted infections (STI) prevention, relationships and negotiating safe sex with partners.
A great article from the Montreal Mirror.
Lori, Liz, and Catherine (the new girl on the block) thought they would make a video about the vagina. Fun and factually accurate (except the part about babies growing in your ovaries).

A Fat Take on Health by Liz Brockest
The word “healthy” will forever exist for me in quotation marks until someone actually explains to me what it is. As far as I am concerned, it’s a myth, a marketing tool, and a social trap.
Liz is part of the Fat Femme Mafia.
Feeling Feminist, Feeling Fine? by Anna Leventhal
It amazed and kind of shocked me to find that, at least in this one situation, I had absorbed way more social views on how women “should” behave than I ever realized.
Anna works at Shameless mag.
